Some 30,000 people are out on the streets of Saint Paul, protesting the Republican National Convention, which has been toned down to what is the developing story of Hurricane Gustav (note: ICE apparently says that are no immigration checkpointsand encouraged all people, regardless of immigration status, to leave New Orleans – although our correspondent there, Dolores Bernal, says that at least some immigrants refused to leave for dear of deportation).

According to the Coldsnap Legal Collective, at least 75 people have been arrested so far. I’ve received information that several people have had their rights violated, and the word here on Radio Row is that Democracy Now’s Amy Goodman, Sharif Abdel, Kouddous and Nicole Salazar have been detained. I will be heading back out to the streets in about an hour – for now, here are some pictures of today’s actions:
