Dear Em,
Thanks for your thoughtful and informative letter. You are
very correct in that we did not know that this festival had any
political party agenda at the foundation, nor did we know that we
would be censured for speaking our views, singing our songs from this
stage. The only communication about this concert we’ve heard was
that: It was the only show we could get on this date because its a
large annual festival and dominates the city for this weekend., and
that we were encouraged by the promoter to say from the stage the
things we would normally to an English speaking or European audience
about our political and social views. This seemed positive to us, and
in the spirit of openness . . artistic, political, and personal.
Although we may be walking into a misunderstanding, Its also possible
that we will not be expected to participate in the political charade
by the promoters if only for the reason that we aren’t informed and do
not understand . Regardless, we will not compromise our songs, and
the ideas that we are committed to. Please , I hope you
understand that we cannot cancel this show at this time, and that this
was what we understood to be the only possibility for us to play in
Taiwan during this time. We were hoping to include Taiwan on the way
to Australia from Japan this year, and make up for the time we weren’t
allowed due to S.A.R.S. in 2003. we have all been very busy with
touring the U.S., and then at home working at our jobs to afford this
tour and working extra hard to gain visas and other documents for our
Pacific Tour. Tomorrow morning, I get up early and board a plane for
Osaka.
I hope to see you in Taipei, if not, however I understand and
hope that we can meet in the future when we return . . .
Solidarity,
Thomas

EM,做妳相信的事情!Do what you really believe in!
送給妳一首詩!
When I was one-and-twenty by AE. Housman (1859–1936)
WHEN I was one-and-twenty
I heard a wise man say,
‘Give crowns and pounds and guineas
But not your heart away;
Give pearls away and rubies
But keep your fancy free.’
But I was one-and-twenty,
No use to talk to me.
When I was one-and-twenty
I heard him say again,
‘The heart out of the bosom
Was never given in vain;
’Tis paid with sighs a plenty
And sold for endless rue.’
And I am two-and-twenty,
And oh, ’tis true, ’tis true.
strike anywhere was great. Im so happy you didnt get to ruin this.
To Tommy,
I’m disappointed they got their Taiwan debut at such a filthy political charade.
that’s their fuckin’ choice.
they enjoy attending this fuckin’ filthy political charade.
are you feelin’ better now?
How do you know they “enjoy ” being part of any political charades?
Are you a fucking band member? Do you even know the band personally?
Em, whatever happened to you? You’ve disappeared for a while. If that guy Freddy’s got you, we’ll sue his ass off in court. Your letter to Strike Anywhere- contrary to Freddy Lin’s claims– holds true; I was there too at the 2004 “Say Yes to Taiwan” concert. I also felt like it was a Neo-Nazi political concert. If Freddy Lin releases the ENTIRE concert footage, along with all the literature he was passing out at the concert, I’m sure it will be self-evident.
yeah…go to the concert and stop sittin’ in front of your pathetic little pc and bitchin’ all day whinnin’ like a loser.
you’ll know whether they enjoy it or not.
ha.
To Madagascar:
So your point being…?
it’s fun to watch you people take political actions over music performances.
neo-nazi concert?
yeah….if you really believe it that way you’re either paranoid or a totally idiot…
this is a commercial concert,
they’re here to play,
AND make some fuckin’ money!
you whinners can email SA again anytime,
ask them how they feel.
especially Jason X, i suggest you listen to the words stright from the horse’s mouth,
if you really feel they’re misled.
what you’ve done to the band is nothing more than confusing and annoying…
over and fuckin’ out.
To Madagascar:
“this is a commercial concert, they’re here to play, AND make some fuckin’ money!” — TELL THAT TO TRA’S FREDDY LIN
“what you’ve done to the band is nothing more than confusing and annoying”– SORRY I DIDN’T KNOW YOU’RE THE BAND’S FUCKIN’ REPRESENTATIVE NOW
yeah, right,
go ahead.
i told you that’s the band’s decision to play in taiwan and that’s what they said.
i urge you email directly to the band.
if you really want to deal with the reality.
you don’t know who i am.
and i don’t have to speak for SA.
look just how hilarious you guys really are.
ha.
Listen to yourself, you’re not even making any sense. Your sentences just seem like a bunch of random mumble jumbles…. What are you trying to say? Perhaps repeat it in Chinese if it’s easier for you?
“Mumble jumbles?” What the hell does that even mean? Face it, Jason X, your argument is weak. I talked to SA personally and they said they had a good time and they’re planning to come back. I really don’t understand the big fuss over SA playing here. I mean, if Strike Anywhere is playing in Taipei, no matter who is promoting it, why would you and Em try to ruin it for everyone else? This place is so fucking politically polarized that now you guys trying to bring outsiders into the fray without letting the band make their minds up for themselves. In the past, 228 has been kind of silly with all the “fuck China” bullshit, but I think the organizers have matured a lot. Is there anything wrong with transitional justice for 228 victims? And so what if there is a bit of a political agenda? Nowhere did Freddy state that SA would not have the right to say something that ran contrary to his personal views and I’m sure he wouldn’t have stopped the show if they said something like “this whole fuck China charade is horseshit. Everyone is Chinese. One world, one love etc.” As for bringing King Lychee into her screed of exaggerations and slander, I’m pretty sure they’re not too happy about that. Em shouldn’t be talking shit about a situation that she doesn’t understand.
Basically I think this all comes down to jealousy. Em is jealous because a Freddy booked Strike Anywhere to come and she’s didn’t. Face it Em, even though TRA is a big money company, at least they bring in some good bands and they know how to promote a show in Taiwan. Stop play hatin on Freddy and do your own thing. I thought it was really cool that you brought in those bands to play before, but unfortunately it seems you’ve cached in what little credibility you had in the music scene with that email you just wrote.
To Jay:
First of all, do yourself a favor and look up the meaning for “mumble jumble” . I’m not your English teacher.
Second of all, THANK YOU for making my case AGAINST Freddy Lin and his 228 concert EVEN STRONGER. As you said and admitted, ” In the past, 228 has been kind of silly with all the ‘fuck China’ bullshit”. Freddy Lin strongly denies there were any “fuck China bullshit” in the past, and was referring that as part of the so called “slander”. Thank you for proving our point.
Third of all, your comment: “I’m sure he wouldn’t have stopped the show if they said something like “this whole fuck China charade is horseshit. Everyone is Chinese. One world, one love etc.” , that is totally your speculation.
Fourth of all, King Lychee was never informed of the true political nature of the concert in 2004, and was not too happy about that. Ask the band yourself. You said “Em shouldn’t be talking shit about a situation that she doesn’t understand”, do YOU understand the situation? I doubt it.
And lastly your whole conclusion about Em being “jealous” is just hilariously retarded, I’m not even going to reply to it. Why would anyone be jealous?
Ok, I did – and this is all I found: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Mumble+Jumble+Woo Have you got a better definition? Still can’t find an exact meaning for what you were talking about. It’s not in Webster’s. Anyway, I was just stooping to your level to show how you idiotic were for trying to be all high and mighty about your superior English ability in order to diminish Madagasgar’s point. That’s just pathetic and the fact that you’re resorting to personal attacks proves how weak your argument is. And yes, I have talked to King Lychee many times including at the 2004 228 festival. Have you? Just leave them out of it. Ask them if they wanted Em to fuck up everyone’s chance to see a good band on their account. As for Freddy, I never said I was speaking for Freddy. So, when it comes to whether Freddy would have ejected Strike Anywhere from the festival if they had criticized his past “fuck China” statement, your second guess is as good as mine. That’s where we’re left isn’t it? But there’s no reason to argue anymore is there because Strike Anywhere played at 228 and put on an awesome show. So haha. You’re just a big hater.
